The most common medical treatment is topically applied cortisone cream followed by coal tar ointment, anthralin and calamine lotion. Of all these the calamine lotion is probably the safest but it only stop the itching for a small even as. Coal tar ointment can be effective but is messy and can cause skin irritation. Cortisone products can causes lessening of the skin when used consistantly so avoid these if possible. Some people find that moisturizing the skin can bring relief. I like to say “if you can’t pronounce it – don’t eat it” Well nowhere is this more right than these two examples! Methotrexate can lead to hair loss, decreased resistance to infection, headaches and miscarriage among other things. Side effects associated with cyclosporine contain insomnia, acne, stomach pains and nausea. Is there anything that’s safe to use to treat psoriasis? In view of the fact that the disease is triggered by the immune system the logical answer is to treat the immune system. Small lifestle changes such as eating a healthy diet and drinking bounty of water can also give your immune system a boost. Because psoriasis comes from within, it will always respond better to an internal treatment. Treat the body from within and use a natural anti itching cream or lotion on the skin itself. We can’t yet cure psoriasis but we can manage it well enough so it doesn’t have such a debilitating effect on our lives.

My scalp psoriasis has begun to flare up again after many years (I’ve had severe to moderate psoriasis in view of the fact that I was a baby) and I’m flaking nearly every day. It’s being paid exceptionally annoying and bothersome. I’m currently using prescription salicylic acid in mineral oil every night, which of course only treats the flaking, so it just keeps coming back over and over again. I use T-Gel all the time; it isn’t helping much. Have any of you had distress with scalp psoriasis? If so, I’d like to hear anything you’ve tried that was more or less successful.

I have serious psoriasis problems, nothing has worked other than just making it less red…..thick, red, raised and white patches on wrists, hands, knees, elbows, nose and in ears and eyelids….have tried dr’s, tanning beds and nearly every coal tar treatment we have found in view of the fact that I was a teen.
