peterhutch questioned:

Psoriasis is a skin disease wherein the symptoms contain rashes in the knees, elbows, the face, and even in the genitals and the scalp. Psoriasis affects a large section of the population (it is more common among Scandinavians and less common among Africans and Asians) and to those who are affected, psoriasis treatment is a priority because the rashes often look terrible.

Treatments and cures are prescribed by the doctor from how it is effecting the patients state of mind, their confidence, if it is exposed on the face or hands. Other factors to consider are lifestyle, occupation, geographic location (if at a distance from treatment centres, it could be hard for the patient to receive certain therapies, such as photo therapy), other shape problems that require medication (certain psoriasis medications might cooperate with other medications)

An alternative treatment for psoriasis is detoxification. This treatment may just be the solution that you need to keep your skin disorder under control. According to naturopathic doctors, treating psoriasis helps by treating your liver. Psoriasis has been linked to the presence of several microbial byproducts in the blood. These signs point to an abnormal function of the liver.

When psoriasis is extensive then ultraviolet set alight treatment or phototherapy is used on patients. Phototherapy involves exposure of the skin to wavelengths of ultraviolet set alight under medical supervision. Ultraviolet set alight B (UVB) is an effective form of ultraviolet radiation for treating psoriasis. It is present in natural sunlight and penetrates the skin. UVB slows the abnormally rapid growth of skin cells associated with psoriasis. Treatment involves exposing the skin to an artificial UVB set alight source over a set period of time.

Fumaric Acid Ester Therapy. Introduced nearly 30 years ago, this is one of Germanys most commonly prescribed oral treatments for sever tablet psoriasis. Common side effects contain: flushing, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea. Kidney disorders, decreased white blood cell count, and osteoporosis are more serious side effects of this psoriatic treatment. The gastrointestinal side effects have caused 37% of people taking the original medication to discontinue use; but, recent reformulation offers only rare reports of the gastrointestinal side effects.

Herbal medicines like Saariva (Hemidesmus indicus), Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia), Khadir (Acacia catechu), Vacha (Acorus calamus), Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), and Jatamansi(Nardostachys jatamansi) are used to treat the skin and blood tissue, and to reduce stress.

Other medicines like Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) and Bhrungraj (Eclipta alba) are used to treat the disturbed immune system of the body.

Aloe Vera and Jojoba based shampoos are considered brilliant psoriasis natural treatments for the scalp area, because they help soften the skin and psoriasis plaques.

Oatmeal is another psoriasis natural treatment that can help the entire body, because it can simply be shaken into bathwater and used as a soak. This softens the skin naturally, and helps thin out and soften the psoriasis plaques too.

katerine lev questioned:

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that primarily affects joints and skin. Psoriasis is non-contagious and usually manifests itself in patients between the ages of 15 to 40. But, once psoriasis appears, it is a disease that will be with the patients for the rest of their lives. Psoriasis manifests itself in the form of dry, scaly skin, unsightly rashes and some discomfort – soreness and itching. In severe cases of psoriasis, the skin can crack and even bleed. The severity of the disease varies from patient to patient – it may occur in relatively small areas of the body but can also affect large areas of skin. The causes of psoriasis are not known but it is thought that genetics and stress may have some bearing on the outbreak of the disease Even as many treatments that ease or hinder the disease’s progress do exist, there is no known permanent cure for psoriasis.

Psoriasis Variants

Tablet Psoriasis: Over 80% of patients have tablet psoriasis which evident itself by red or silvery build-ups of skin. Primarily occurs on the elbows and knees but can also affect the scalp or the genital area.

Inverse Psoriasis: tend to appear in the armpits, in areas with folds of skin and also the groin.

Guttate Psoriasis: manifests itself in the form of small red spots covering areas of skin.

Erythrodermic Psoriasis: Cause red patches on the skin. The infected areas can be painful and result in excessive itching.

Pustular Psoriasis: Causes white blisters, usually surrounded by areas of red skin.

Psoriasis Treatment

There is no known cure for psoriasis! Treatments that do exist, aim to control the spread of the disease and reduce its severity. Treatments should be undertaken at the advice of your physician as different treatment regimes are suitable for different patients and forms of psoriasis.

Treatment regimes contain:

Topical treatment: creams and lotions are applied to affected areas. Some of this medicines are natural, some artificial and some a amalgamation of the two. Always consult your physician or dermatologist before using unknown substances. Phototherapy: or the exposure of the affected areas to UV rays, usually in a solarium or through the use of UV projectors. These treatments must be medically supervised and ordinary. Systemic treatments: involves the use or oral or intravenous medication – always administered by a qualified medical practitioner! Climatotherapy: refers to treatments for psoriasis in an area where climatic and other factors give a therapeutic and healing benefit – such as the Dead Sea. Climatotherapy is a process that can take anywhere from a week to a month. The results of climatotherapy, especially at the Dead Sea, have been shown to be extraordinarily effective in combating the ravages of psoriasis and in retarding its reappearance.
