Eddie Hudd questioned:

Psoriasis is a physical skin condition that affects around two percent of all adults and can cause noteworthy mental distress to those that endure from it. Although psoriasis manifests itself as a skin condition, clinical studies have concluded that the actual cause emanates from the immune system. It has also been found that genetic factors play a role in who is likely to develop psoriasis. Folks whose parents or grandparents suffered with the complaint have a superior prospect of developing it as well.

There are a number of innumerable symptoms associated with a flare up of psoriasis including salmon colored skin, which becomes scaly, flaky and irritated. With tablet psoriasis, which is also the most common type, the affected areas develop around, oval or odd formed patches of red that are covered with skin that is scaly and silvery colored. The shape and sizes of the patches vary widely and individual smaller areas can combine to form one larger shape of irritated scaly skin. As well as life unsightly, these larger areas tend to crack and start bleeding.

The area of affected skin can be converted into very sore and feel as though it is burning. As with the shape, there is no consistency as to how long a specific flare-up will last. It could go away within a week but on the other hand, you may be suffering for weeks on end. because psoriasis is classified as a long-term condition, the prospects of recurring flare-ups in the same or different area of the body are very high.

Certain parts of the body tend to be affected more than others including the upper body, head, elbows and knees. But, any part of the body can develop psoriasis. One bizarre anomaly is that outbreaks tend to be symmetrical in nature in as much that opposite sides of the body will be affected in the same areas at the same time.

For reasons that are not yet fully understood, T-cells, which are needed by our bodies to produce infection fighting white blood cells, cause inflammation of the skin. T-cells also in some way trigger the production of an excess of skin cells. Because these skin cells are surplus to requirements, they just stack up on top of each other and in turn start the telltale raised patches on the skin surface. The red look is the increased blood supply that is needed to nourish these skin cells.

Although not the causes, normal triggers of psoriasis contain sunlight, streptococcal infections and traumas, both past and present, to the skin. Alterations in the bodys hormone levels as well as stress and anxiety can also spark outbreaks. Individuals with early stages of HIV seem to have higher instances of psoriasis as well. Smokers and alcohol drinkers are considered to be at superior risk of developing psoriasis although it is not contagious and cannot be passed on.

Currently, there still is no recognized cure for psoriasis. But many effective treatment options can relieve the symptoms. Resisting the temptation to scratch the affected area and keeping it moist is a excellent start.

The first line of treatment is topical, which are applied directly to the affected surface area with the ultimate goal of trying to stem the production of excess skin cells. Coal tar, salicylic acid, corticosteroids, synthetic vitamin D, tazorac and anthrallin are common localized treatment choices as are specially developed bathing products and moisturizers. Systemic medications are prescribed to address more severe cases. Phototherapy, where patients are exposed to medically supervised ultraviolet radiation is also effective in treating psoriasis.

Paul W Howard questioned:

For any person that does not have the condition Psoriasis it would seem ludicrous to suggest that they deserve to endure from this condition. But, during the examine I conducted on the effects of Hypnotherapy upon Psoriasis, this is one of the core beliefs that I learned a Psoriasis sufferer has.

What is Psoriasis? Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin condition. There are nine types, each with unique signs and symptoms. Tablet Psoriasis is the most common type of Psoriasis and the only one so far that I have been able to affect. About 80% of people who develop psoriasis have tablet psoriasis, which looks like patches of raised, ruddy skin covered by opaque scales. These patches, or plaques, often form on the elbows, knees, scalp and lower back. But, the plaques can occur anywhere on the body.

Researchers believe that psoriasis is an immune-mediated condition. This earnings the condition is caused by faulty signals in the body’s immune system. It is believed that psoriasis develops when the immune system tells the body to over-react and accelerate the growth of skin cells. Normally skin cells mature and are shed from the skin’s surface every 28 to 30 days. When psoriasis develops, the skin cells mature in 3 to 6 days and go to the skin surface. As a replacement for of life shed, the skin cells pile up, causing the visible lesions. It is my belief that by using Hypnotherapy what the client is able to do is to assess those faulty signals. There is excellent evidence to show that Hypnotherapy can have a noteworthy effect on Psoriasis.

Psoriasis usually causes discomfort. The skin often itches, and it may crack and bleed. In severe cases, the itching and discomfort may keep a person awake at night, and the pain can make everyday tasks hard.

In my previous article “Psoriasis an mad man’s game” I described the examine, the results and another trait common to a Psoriasis client, rage. But in this article I want to discuss a common belief amongst Psoriasis clients and that is that “I’m not excellent enough”. This is a common belief that virtually all Psoriasis clients, which I have worked with over the years, have. They believe, deep down at a sub-conscious level, for one reason or another, that they have done something ill-treat. This develops into a belief that “I’m not excellent enough”, which is ultimately translated into the belief that they deserve the condition. To an outsider looking in this would appear to be bizarre. But, consider the small child, say a five year ancient girl, whose parents split up and her daddy is suddenly taken away. What does that child reckon? It’s a honest bet that she will be very upset and in trying to know what has happened to her world, (given her limited understanding of the world and its complexities), she may feel that SHE has done something ill-treat, which is why daddy left. In turn, this leads to feelings of guilt and low self-worth. Therefore, the “I’m not excellent enough” syndrome is born.

Psoriasis will often develop after an event like this. Of course it then follows on quite naturally for the child to link the two collectively to come to an even larger fictitious belief that because she wasn’t ‘excellent enough’ God, Father Christmas or whoever, gave her this horrible scaly, itchy skin. Now, most adults would of course dismiss this belief structure. But we are talking about a small child with very limited processing capability; to her it’s a straightforward cause and effect, “I deserve it and here it is!”

Okay, so now this child has the belief, what happens as she grows? Does her self-worth improve? It’s very unlikely! What would you expect to happen when she’s at school doing PE with scales on her elbows or in her hair? Do you imagine the other family will know and give her positive encouragement? Of course not! Names like scabby and snakeskin make her feel more ashamed and lecture her to hide it away, dropping her self worth even lower. This will take up again for the rest of her life unless a name steps in and tells her hidden mind to “STOP” these destructive thought processes, and starts the reversal of the cycle so that the healing may start.

Many people are unaware of the automatic functions of the hidden mind. This simply earnings that if a process is repeated often enough, nearly irrespective of the outcome, this ‘thinking’ develops into an automatic process. This is because the hidden mind does not have a vital factor, which earnings that it does not interrogate behaviour or thinking to establish whether or not it is beneficial to the client.

Hypnotherapy is really the most direct and influential way of varying hidden thinking; within therapy patterns thinking and behaviour can be improved to facilitate beneficial resolutions. Often this process is both surprising to, and effortless for, the client.

A belief in the benefits of Hypnotherapy is not necessary in order to change behaviour. Many clients that I have dealt with have any been unable to know the link between the way we reckon and the way our body responds, or tend to reckon of ‘hypnosis’ as life something they have seen on television, which has no relevance to them. Hypnotherapy works independently and separately from a client’s vital intellectual assessment, which often comes as a ‘huge surprise’.

C Smith questioned:

Briefly, psoriasis is a chronic, but non-contagious disease which affects the skin in joints. Typically it causes red patches on the affected area. These patches or areas of inflammation are called psoriatic plaques. What happens is that the skin just rapidly accumulates at these sites and turns silvery/white. These spots could happen anywhere, but they are most common around the elbows and knees. The cause is unknown, but there may be links to a genetic quick of the trait. So, now that we have had a refresher as to what psoriasis is we can dig into the treatment ladder. Unfortunately due to our own biochemical differences, the treatment in essence is a trial and error.

Basically, there is a progressive discipline to the treatment of psoriasis including topical, photo, and systemic treatments. The treatments will start at the lowest form and work towards the most severe treatments. Fastidious treatments are based majorly on the location, type of psoriasis, and severity. It is notable that over time psoriasis can be converted into resistant to a treatment, this can cause a change as well. The first level of treatment available is topical. These treatments contain the topical creams, ointments, and steroid creams. Unless your case is severe enough to skip this stage, you will start here. There are both over the counter and prescription medicines that fall into this category. On top of the ointments and medicated creams, you should be able to locate some decent bath or soak treatments.

The next level of treatment is phototherapy. The cheapest version of this is exposure to the sun. The exposure has to be in small durations and you have to avoid burns though. The UV rays in sunlight were identified as beneficial to the treatment of psoriasis. This is what lead to many hospitals adopting the UV treatments they use today. Phototherapy can be used as a stand alone treatment, but is normally combined with the other forms of treatment.

The last level of treatment is systemic treatment. The name is consequential from the fact that these treatments are usually in pill or injection form. The medicines are geared towards healing from the inside out. Systemic treatment tends to have a high level of toxicity and requires the patient to be observed quicker than the other two forms of treatment. The patient undergoes normal blood and liver testing to ensure the medicine is not doing more harm than excellent. Pregnant females are not able to undergo the systemic treatments, again due to toxicity.

These are the three major treatments that are used in most clinics/hospitals. There are also alternative methods of treatment available including climate therapy, doctor fish, and sulphur. With the constant changes in medicine, there is always a new treatment on the horizon.

Hilldabeast questioned:

I have suffered from psoriasis my total life. When I was small it started on the back of my leg and worked it way up my thigh. As I got grown-up, It started to spred more. Id get patches on my knees or elbows and it was nothing that creams or topical treatments wouldnt cure…

The grown-up im being paid the worse its be converted into.. Its now covering about 80% of my body and not only is it physically discomforting, Its also affecting me mentally. The stares and questions from people who are unfamiliar with this illness makes me feel like I am something that stepped out of a horror movie..

Its hard to deal with because besides my psoriasis I am a very pretty 21 year ancient. I cant wear bathing suits or even shorts, and events like tonight, when my brother graduates high school, Im going to be wearing a long sleeved shirt in 90 degree weather.
I would really like to know if a name knew a home remedy or something inexpensive that would reduce the appearence of my “blotches”. I dont have medical insurance, so a trip to the dermatologist is pretty much out of the question. Ive also tried the tanning bed, but have found that the skin under my psoriasis becomes burnt and makes my even dryer than before.. Im willing to try anything..

Im using some over the counter treatment called Psoriasin, but no luck with it yet. Also ive been using things like, Selson Blue as body wash..

Any help would be Momentously appreciated!
Ive tried the Enbrel treatment, and was on it for 6 months. It worked somewhat, but even with insurance, I was paying over $200 a month, and the price without it is like $1500 a month.. Cant handle that….

Psoriasis Bootcamp Program
