Jane Robinson questioned:

People with psoriasis delight in sun tanning just as much as people without psoriasis, and usually even more. Not only the sun gives your skin a nice golden color but if you have psoriasis – the sun also helps you to temporarily get rid of your psoriatic plaques.

Some of us are lucky enough to live in the areas with a constant summer (Southern California, Southern Florida etc.). But the majority enjoys the sun only in the summer months. Some people with psoriasis not only take normal vacations to the places with a warm climate, but even try to relocate there in order to keep their psoriasis in check.

Unfortunately, this does not pertain to the people with the summer type of psoriasis. The sun really aggravates the state of their skin and psoriasis.

But what exactly is a suntan? Suntan is the reaction of the skin to the sun. Our skin tries to protect itself from the excessive sun rays by starting to produce more of the melanin pigment. The pigment melanin gives the skin its nuance – pink, brown etc. People with darker skin are better protected from the sun. They usually develop a nice even suntan. People with a honest skin, as a replacement for of an even suntan may develop sunburns and uneven pigmentation. This is due to that their skin does not produce enough of melanin to protect itself.

After stopping the exposure to the UV rays, the skin stops producing excessive melanin and returns to its usual color.

Excessive sun causes hurts, starting with painful blisters and premature skin aging, and including melanoma – skin cancer.

It is a fact that people with the winter type of psoriasis can temporary get rid of their plaques with a regular timed exposure to the sun rays. But why does this happen? The thing is that the sun rays exterminate the excessive T-cells in the skin. And the T-cells of people with psoriasis are one of the culprits of psoriatic plaques. Furthermore, the remaining T-cells lose their ability to express the IFN-gamma cytokines, which play a huge role in the inflammatory processes.

Does it make sense to suntan in order to get rid of psoriasis? I believe that it does. The benefits in this case outweigh the negative side-effects.

Most celebrities and other public people maintain their skin with a bronze hue year around. Why do they do it? Because tanned skin usually looks more smooth and healthy and shows less imperfections than pale skin. Don’t they know about the adverse side effects of constantly subjecting their skin to the UV rays? I believe that they do. But their looks are much more vital for them as it directly contributes to their public image, fame and therefore profits.

People with psoriasis endure from the unpleasant external manifestations of psoriasis. Will being paid rid of these manifestations outweigh the side-effects such as premature skin aging? I believe so.

Simply try to be careful with sun tanning. Start to tan with small periods. Keep a record of how long you suntan in order not to burn. Moisturize your skin after each sun tanning. You may also want to see your dermatologist in order to start regularly monitoring the state of your skin even as you are sun tanning.

Eddie Hudd questioned:

Psoriasis is a physical skin condition that affects around two percent of all adults and can cause noteworthy mental distress to those that endure from it. Although psoriasis manifests itself as a skin condition, clinical studies have concluded that the actual cause emanates from the immune system. It has also been found that genetic factors play a role in who is likely to develop psoriasis. Folks whose parents or grandparents suffered with the complaint have a superior prospect of developing it as well.

There are a number of innumerable symptoms associated with a flare up of psoriasis including salmon colored skin, which becomes scaly, flaky and irritated. With tablet psoriasis, which is also the most common type, the affected areas develop around, oval or odd formed patches of red that are covered with skin that is scaly and silvery colored. The shape and sizes of the patches vary widely and individual smaller areas can combine to form one larger shape of irritated scaly skin. As well as life unsightly, these larger areas tend to crack and start bleeding.

The area of affected skin can be converted into very sore and feel as though it is burning. As with the shape, there is no consistency as to how long a specific flare-up will last. It could go away within a week but on the other hand, you may be suffering for weeks on end. because psoriasis is classified as a long-term condition, the prospects of recurring flare-ups in the same or different area of the body are very high.

Certain parts of the body tend to be affected more than others including the upper body, head, elbows and knees. But, any part of the body can develop psoriasis. One bizarre anomaly is that outbreaks tend to be symmetrical in nature in as much that opposite sides of the body will be affected in the same areas at the same time.

For reasons that are not yet fully understood, T-cells, which are needed by our bodies to produce infection fighting white blood cells, cause inflammation of the skin. T-cells also in some way trigger the production of an excess of skin cells. Because these skin cells are surplus to requirements, they just stack up on top of each other and in turn start the telltale raised patches on the skin surface. The red look is the increased blood supply that is needed to nourish these skin cells.

Although not the causes, normal triggers of psoriasis contain sunlight, streptococcal infections and traumas, both past and present, to the skin. Alterations in the bodys hormone levels as well as stress and anxiety can also spark outbreaks. Individuals with early stages of HIV seem to have higher instances of psoriasis as well. Smokers and alcohol drinkers are considered to be at superior risk of developing psoriasis although it is not contagious and cannot be passed on.

Currently, there still is no recognized cure for psoriasis. But many effective treatment options can relieve the symptoms. Resisting the temptation to scratch the affected area and keeping it moist is a excellent start.

The first line of treatment is topical, which are applied directly to the affected surface area with the ultimate goal of trying to stem the production of excess skin cells. Coal tar, salicylic acid, corticosteroids, synthetic vitamin D, tazorac and anthrallin are common localized treatment choices as are specially developed bathing products and moisturizers. Systemic medications are prescribed to address more severe cases. Phototherapy, where patients are exposed to medically supervised ultraviolet radiation is also effective in treating psoriasis.

Jane Robinson questioned:

Psoriasis as a word consequential from the Greek word “psora” – “itch”.

Psoriasis is the most wide spread chronic dermatitis. According to statistics, about 2-3% of the total population of the Earth has psoriasis – approximately 120 – 180 million people! For instance: Canada – about 1 million people, Splendid Britain – 1 million, Scandinavian countries – 2 million people, France – 2 million people and the U.S.A. – 7 million people.

There are countries, where psoriasis is encountered less frequently – for example Japan, China – less than 1% of the population.

Psoriasis is also more frequently recorded in locations of a moderate and cold climate and it is relatively less normal in the tropical countries.

In rural areas the frequency of psoriasis is usually 3-4 times less normal than in the urban areas.

Psoriasis appears on skin as inflamed lesions, peeling and scales. The scales can be easily removed, and beneath them there lays an yet denser scale. In addition to the skin psoriasis may as well strike the nails and joints.

The average cycle of shedding of normal skin cells occurs approximately in 4 weeks, with psoriasis this process takes only 4-5 days. The course of psoriasis usually has a sharply expressed seasonality. Psoriasis can be located in any sections of the skin, but predominantly the plaques are located symmetrically on the knees and elbows, on scalp and on the skin of the rest of the body.

Psoriasis is a chronic condition, which stays with a person for their total life, and is accompanied by the variation of flare-ups and remissions. Psoriasis is a non-contagious disease.

Psoriasis develops due to many factors, with the prevailing substance of genetic factors.

Psoriasis is not fatal, but it causes loads of problems for the sufferer. Psoriasis may bring serious complications; it causes commonplace inconveniences, which start dominating the life and the thoughts of a person and affect the quality of life. Usually these are cosmetic, which limit the choice of the selection of hair-do, outfit, and the actions. People with psoriasis often experience inferiority complexes. Life bothered by their appearance, they may be converted into “people in a box”: seldom in public, wear maximally closed outfits etc.

Countless well-known people, including Ben Franklin, Henry Ford, Joseph Stalin and many others had psoriasis. In the 1930’s, Winston Churchill, who as well had psoriasis for many years, projected a golden monument for the person, who cures this disease.

jackb son asked:

Plaque Psoriasis, aside from being the most common type, is just psoriasis. Let me explain. Prior to being called this, it was psoriasis and before this, was thought to be leprosy.

For example… psoriasis on the scalp came to be scalp psoriasis. This began to get descriptive names many decades ago according to where on the body you had it. It’s still the same, but changes its appearance depending where on the body you have it. For obvious reasons (hair mass and less skin tissue), this on the scalp has generally a different appearance then psoriasis on the elbows and knees.

Signs and Symptoms

There are various types of psoriasis. We have Plaque psoriasis, Nail psoriasis, Scalp psoriasis, Guttate psoriasis, Inverse psoriasis, Pustular psoriasis, Erythrodermic psoriasis and Psoriatic arthritis. And the most common of it is the plaque psoriasis. The symptoms of psoriasis may defer depending on what type a person has but may include one or more of the following:

• Red patches of skin, inflamed skin usually covered with silver colored scales is the most common form of plaque psoriasis. These patches may be itchy and painful. The itch may occur anywhere in your body including your genitals. Sometimes these red patches crack and bleed.

• Psoriasis may also affect your fingernails and toenails. Discoloration and pitting of the nails can also be one of the symptoms of nail psoriasis.
Sharon Bell questioned:

The more potent the steroid, the superior potential for skin hurt. That’s why steroids should be used with caution, especially if you have psoriasis.

To guide you in this topic, here are more tips on steroid use:

When stopping steroid therapy, taper off gradually. Stopping suddenly can cause a flare.

Steroids can cause skin hurt not always apparent to the patient. A physician should check the skin periodically.

Steroids generally clear psoriasis lesions for variable periods of time depending on the individual.

Use steroid medications sparingly. In this instance, more is not better.

“Steroid creams and ointments do not smell or stain and are pleasant to use. Unfortunately they are not that effective in clearing plaques of psoriasis and the psoriasis tends to rebound after withdrawal, often in a more unstable form. Local steroids are therefore not recommended for chronic tablet psoriasis. Nevertheless, steroids are indicated for certain types of psoriasis. The skin on the face tolerates tar and anthranol (which were previously discussed in this series) poorly, and one percent hydrocortisone ointment is the treatment of choice; more potent steroid preparations should not be used,” clarified Dr. S.M. Going, clinical assistant, department of dermatology at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, in The British Medical Journal.

“Flexural psoriasis (which is characterized by well-defined red areas and minimal scaling) is another form where tar and anthranol are likely to irritate the skin and steroids are indicated. It is often useful to choose a training which combines a mild or moderately potent steroid with antifungal and antibiotic agent as lesser infection in these warm moist areas is often a problem. Systemic steroids should not be prescribed in psoriasis,” Going concluded.

Psoriasis can also be controlled using ultraviolet radiation. This can be done in two ways: through ultraviolet B or ultraviolet A therapy.

In the former, which is called phototherapy or UVB, the skin is exposed to shortwave ultraviolet set alight in a cabinet filled with 16 or more UVB lamps. This is effective against moderate to severe psoriasis, particularly those with small plaques or guttate psoriasis which is characterized by small pink macules or discolored spots on the skin. UVB therapy doesn’t work well in patients with very thick or huge lesions.

Phototherapy can be done at home or at a physician’s office although the latter is preferable for advanced cases. The thought is to expose the skin to gradually increasing doses of UVB set alight until it turns pink.

When the skin becomes accustomed to a certain dose and no longer takes on a pink color, the UVB exposure time is further increased until the lesions expire.

“The first exposure to the set alight is usually small, lasting as small as 15 to 30 seconds, depending on the person’s skin type and the number of UVB lamps in the unit. People with a lighter skin type are more sensitive to the UVB so they may start out with a lower exposure time than a person with dark skin,” according to the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) in Portland, Oregon. (Next: Enhancing the effects of phototherapy for psoriasis.)

Form the beginning of humankind hundreds of thousands of human beings – from common people to stars, from kings to vital modern politicians – suffered and do still endure from psoriasis today.

Psoriasis is even cited in the writings of ancient healing. Back in the late classic times there was a known disease, which was realized by the peeling and itchiness of skin.

The problem of Ancient Greek medical expressions led to the fact that in the functions of Hippocrates, leprosy and psoriasis were collectively under one name, which was -leprosy. Psoriasis was known in the times of Hippocrates under the names of lepra and psora, as well as alphos and leichen. In the times of Hippocrates a dermatological expressions was introduced, utilized sometimes even at present, some of the terms of which had a group meaning. So, under the term “psoriasis” they united the diseases, which are accompanied by tuberosity, by the formation of scale, spots and by keratosis, such as eczema, lichens (micose, red flat lichen, tubercular lupus, leprosy, etc).

Each of these terms had their really unique elements; for example, the term “leprosy” was used with the determination of the assortment of the diseases, which are manifested by a thick skin, by its peeling and itchiness, which in some way tells us about psoriasis in today’s thought of psoriasis.

At the start of our era a distinguished Greek physician named Claudius Galen was first to use the term “psoriasis” to mark the scaly changes in the skin with an extreme itchiness; but, clinically this condition small resembled the present manifestations of psoriasis.

In the writings of the past hundreds of years psoriasis itself was sometimes mistaken to be leprosy, mange, Vitiligo, which usually needed a strict segregation and other subsequent consequences: people with psoriasis didn’t get any shape care; they had to wear a really unusual outfit and bell.

With the term “psora” (ancient name of psoriasis) it was called the variety of diseases of the skin, for which was known for it’s peeling, dry skin and itchiness.

The first visible description of the clinical manifestations of psoriasis belongs to a 2nd century Greek philosopher named Celsus.

Only the start of the 19th Century an English physician named Willan and his students clearly offered the thought of psoriasis as an illness, its manifestations and problems. They differentiated it from leprosy and fungus diseases. They secluded the usual and uncommon surge of psoriasis (changes in the palms, feet, etc. ). Willan described two diseases: discoid psoriasis, which he called Lepra Graecorum and Psora Leprosa. Willan in 1801 gave a description of the ailment taking into tab variations in the clinical make-up of psoriasis.

A key role in the course of the investigate into psoriasis was done by a Russian dermatologists of the 19th century , which considered this dermatosis as a system ailment,”psoriatic disease”, capturing into tab the connection of psoriasis with the pathology of the interior organs, metabolism, and the condition of the nervous system. The physicians of innumerable countries (Gebr, H.Koebner and others) have also later pointed out the connection of psoriatic disease with the circumstance of the nervous system, and the diseases of the interior organs.

Later dermatology was enriched by new facts about the zest of the disease. All the cumulated evidence lets us at present call psoriasis a “system disease”.

New evidence about the essence and the mechanism of the course of the illness was obtained in the last 40 years; the new modern methods for the therapy were envisioned and used: PUVA- treatment, corticosteroids, retinoids, cytostatics in the therapy of severe forms, Selective Ultraviolet Phototherapy, acupuncture, hemosorption etc.

During the latter part of the 20th century it was obvious by a truly immense approach to the dilemma of psoriasis. Only in the last 10 years or so, around the globe there have been published more than ten-thousand pieces, devoted to psoriatic dermatosis, which makes it one of the most examined. But, none of the possibilities or the theories show a complete essence of the illness, and the same problems of treatment and preventive maintenance stands in front of the latest dermatologists as vivid as it did a century ago.

Currently, many Researchers and educational institutions deal with the exploration of the root, manifestations, and with the refinement of new ways to treat and use preventive maintenance measures for psoriasis. In the United States the key scientific focal point for psoriasis is Stanford University, which has 35 different countries from around the world in the form of an international association on the studies of psoriasis. The association publishes the only one on the entire planet the American Journal of Psoriasis. It deals with the inquiries about psoriasis from dermatologist all around the globe.

Every five years there is carried out a World Congress specialized to the difficulty of psoriasis.

October 29th is dedicated as World Psoriasis Day. Every year it is devoted to persons with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

Jane Robinson questioned:

What do we know about the influence of the sun on psoriasis? Does the sun improve or worsen psoriasis? Is the affect of the sunlight same in all the people with psoriasis?

The majority of the people with psoriasis (about 95%) report that the exposure to the sun helps them in their psoriasis treatment.

The exclusion is the people with the so-called summer psoriasis, which is known to get worse in the summer, possibly under the influence of the sun.

The summer psoriasis is also known as the Photoinduced or the Photosensitive psoriasis. This rare type of psoriasis affects about 5% of the people with psoriasis. The so-called summer psoriasis may be the result of the Koebner phenomenon — when the psoriatic lesions are triggered by any kind of skin trauma. Therefore the people with the photosensitive psoriasis should be exceptionally careful when exposing their skin to the sun.

The UV set alight in the sun is capable of suppressing the endeavor of the T cells in the people with psoriasis. Therefore, the sun in moderation is really capable of improving the course of psoriasis in the people with the so-called winter psoriasis.

Many people with psoriasis often go on vacations to the places with a better climate. People, who live in the Northern climate, usually notice a noteworthy improvement in their psoriasis after a stay in a warm sunny Southern climate. Some people with psoriasis even choose to relocate to the places with a better climate.

But unfortunately the sun in excess may be converted into harmful for the people with psoriasis, even for the people with the so-called winter psoriasis, which is known to get better in the summer, under the influence of the sunlight.

The UV set alight in excess may cause sunburn. Skin traumas are one of the major psoriasis triggers. Any skin trauma, be it cut, a bruise or a burn may cause any the appearance of psoriasis in the genetically predisposed to psoriasis people, or the flare-up of psoriasis in the people with psoriasis.

And thus the sun may be converted into a psoriasis treatment method, as well as a psoriasis provoking factor.

Therefore, if you choose to improve the state of your psoriasis with the sunlight, you should treat the sun just as you would treat any other psoriasis treatment – there has to be a fastidious scheme, which you should follow even as sun tanning.

If you have honest skin, or in the case, you want to be 100% sure that you will not get a sunburn, it is better to suntan in the shade (i.e. under an umbrella) for the first few days.

Apply gentle moisturizing creams after every sun tanning.

It is also known that some medications can make your skin sensitive to the sunlight, for example St. John’s wort, which is sometimes used in holistic medicine for psoriasis treatment.

If you do develop sunburn, you have to stay out of the sun. Even the strongest sunscreen, cannot protect you 100% from the UV set alight of the sun.

Jane Robinson questioned:

Nowadays psoriasis still remains a riddle both to experienced dermatologists and to the psoriasis sufferers.

It’s believed that at the base of psoriasis, there lays a genetic predisposition. Some lucky person may live for her/his entire life without ever developing psoriasis. In the less lucky persons under the influence of a provoking factor, they will develop psoriasis.

What may serve as a provoking factor for psoriasis? It may be a stress, an intellectual over-strain, an infectious disease, terrible diet etc…

Hypothermia may also be converted into a provoking factor for psoriasis.

Hypothermia – the Low Temperatures.

What is hypothermia? Hypothermia is a prolonged lowering of the internal body temperature.

Hypothermia is a very perilous condition, which may occur when a person is life theme to low air or water temperatures for a prolonged period of time. Hypothermia does not always occur in the winter. It may also occur in the spring, autumn, or even the summer. For example the body temperature of a child who has been swimming in cool water for a long time, may lower without him/her even noticing that.

The body temperature of a human is maintained through the so-called homeostasis — the mechanism which insures the stable internal environmental of our bodies. With hypothermia, the homeostatic systems will ultimately fail to produce high enough heat levels in the body.

Hypothermia is very perilous because it can lead to incapacitation, coolness bite and even death in the worst scenario.

Even though hypothermia is not the most common trigger of psoriasis, it was known to trigger psoriasis in some cases.

Hypothermia is a threat for example for the survivors of a sinking ship. People in this case are theme to the cold waters until they are rescued. Water absorbs heat very quickly and therefore the body temperature of a person staying in cold water will start to drop very quickly.

In this case, hypothermia would also be connected with stress induced by dread. Such amalgamation would especially be capable of provoking psoriasis in a genetically predisposed person.

Cryotherapy – the Ultra Low Temperatures.

Surprisingly, the ultra low temperatures are reported to be capable of treating psoriasis. Ultra low temperatures are used in the so-called Cryotherapy. Cryotherapy has practically nothing in common with hypothermia.

What is Cryotherapy? Cryotherapy is a treatment with the use of ultra low temperatures. Such low temperatures, as they use in Cryotherapy, cannot be achieved without special equipment. The usual temperature of the gas used in the Cryotherapy composes -150° Celsius.

The contact of the body surface with the ultra low temperatures with Cryotherapy composes only several minutes.

The skin temperature at the time of the Cryotherapy procedure lowers down to -2° Celsius. This provokes a potent stress on the skin and in the total body. This type of stress is probably one of the only ones, capable of influencing psoriasis beneficially.

The irritating action of the Cryotherapy causes the mobilization of innumerable impaired body functions, i.e. it may help to repair the skin affected by psoriasis. Cryotherapy is especially known to be effective for the treatment of the scalp psoriasis.

James S. Pendergraft questioned:

Psoriasis is a skin disease that is marked by thick sheets of inflamed skins covered by scales of silver. This is a common occurrence. In fact, two percent of population in UK suffers from this disease.

Who are More Prone to Psoriasis?

Chances of your life afflicted are higher, if your parents endure from it or have suffered from it in the past. It is caused when the skin tissues start to produce very quick. In the event, they tend to pile up on the surface. Scalps, knees, toe, feet and palm are most vulnerable to the disease.

What Causes Psoriasis?

Though it is still very vague as to what may be causing Psoriasis, the researchers have formed quite many hypotheses about its origin. Some believe that it happens due to immune deficit, which results in production of erroneous skin cells. Such haphazard skin cell growth causes a jam on skin surface. A minority believe that it might happen due to bacterial action. They reckon that those suffering from genetic weakness tend to get their skin cells weakened by bacteria. This can result in scales and patches.

Tips for Reducing Symptoms of Psoriasis

Psoriasis can result in plaques or red skin and silvery scales. When it becomes more chronic, it can cause an alteration of mucous membrane, hair, toenail and fingernail. What are we supposed to do to minimize the symptoms of psoriasis? Well! It’s not AIDS and is certainly curable and that too with only a small effort. The thought is to be disciplined with the effort.

Avoid Skin Products

Do not use skin products that are known to be sensitive to your skin. Remember, the disease is caused primarily due to skin sensitivity. You should also abstain from pricking or itching too much. This can result in aggravation of symptoms. You also need to know that vital care is required for winter months, as the symptoms intensify in winter when sebaceous gland starts to run dry and auto-moisturizers of the body be converted into less active.

Avoid Letting Dry Zones Develop

This brings us to the most noteworthy aspect of keeping the disease in check. Just use bounty of moisturizers, creams and lotions. Do not let dry zones develop around the skin surface. Use topical medicines and natural remedies. The thought is to use them after consultation with a bigwig having adequate knowhow. Skin care diminishes the volatility of skin flare-ups. This is logical.

Skin Care with Quality Lotions & Mild Soaps

Skin care can help in keeping tab on injuries and inflammations. This way, the skin diseases are involuntarily kept in check. Skin care is possible with quality lotions and mild soaps. The thought is to use soaps that are neither too alkaline nor close to an acidic pH value. Moreover, only those lotions shall be used which do not have alcohol or alcohol base. Alcohol may be a soothing agent for acne but it really does no excellent against psoriasis. To apply medication in a more effective way, skin scales or crusts need to be removed. This can be done by moistening the scales with lotion. With time, they get peeled off.

Using these methods, we can proficiently fight the symptoms of psoriasis and save your skin from being paid affected.

To Your Shape!

Jane Robinson questioned:

Nail psoriasis usually appears in people that already have psoriasis on their skin. In rare cases nail psoriasis may appear before the skin manifestations. And in the rarest cases psoriasis will only appear on the nails of a person and will never appear anywhere else.

In the case when there are no psoriasis lesions on the skin of a person, and only the nails are hurt with psoriasis, it is sometimes hard for a doctor to make a assess diagnosis. Nail psoriasis often resembles a fungal hurt of the nails. In this case it is helpful if the person knows of her/his family description of psoriasis.

Nail psoriasis that is mistakenly diagnosed as a nail fungus will not receive a assess treatment, which is why it is very vital to realize the assess diagnosis.

Here are the most common signs of nail psoriasis:

- Point hemorrhage of the nails – your nails in this case may resemble a thimble. The surface of the nail plates is covered with tiny grains or pits. This happens due to the loss of some cells on the nail plate.

- Some of your nails may be converted into loose and to partly separate from the place where they are connected to the finger. There will appear hollow white spaces underneath the nails. Usually these spaces first appear at the tip of the nail and then start progressing towards the root of the nail. These spaces will grow with time causing the nail to rise above the surface of the nail bed.

- The skin underneath the nail may be converted into thick. This also leads to the separation of the nail from the nail bed and to the raising of the nail above the nail bed.

- There may appear a discoloration underneath the nail plate that resembles a blood or oil drop. It is usually of a yellow-red color.

- Sometimes there may appear lines going across the nails. These lines appear due to the inflammation of the skin underneath the nail affected by psoriasis.

- Sometimes psoriasis also appears on the skin of the finger aptly next to the root of the nail and next to the nail cuticle. The affected skin in this case looks like a usual psoriasis lesion – silvery-white scales on top of a red inflamed skin.

- The nail affected by psoriasis usually becomes brittle, thick and starts crumbling. It is especially uncomfortable when the toe nails get affected by psoriasis.

- Sometimes there may appear the so-called splinter hemorrhage – tiny black lines visible through the nail plate. Splinter hemorrhage appears when the capillaries on the tip of your fingers or toes bleed underneath the nail plate.

Due to the unhealthy state of the skin affected by psoriasis under the nail it may be converted into infected with a fungus. Sometimes it happens the other way around – nail psoriasis occurs after a fungal infection of the nail.

With the assess diagnosis it is possible to treat nail psoriasis (with different degrees of success). Besides hormonal medicines and other drugs that your doctor may prescribe to you, there are some natural earnings that may help your nails to feel better.

Here are some of the natural ways that you can try at home:

- Try to eat more Calcium (milk, yogurts, cheese etc.) and gelatin.

- Before going to sleep soak your hands in a tray filled with sea water (you can collect the sea water at the sea and store it in a large bottle in the refrigerator).

- Before going to sleep soak your nails in warm vegetable oil (olive, sunflower etc.), herbal oil (chamomile etc.) or apply a plain fatty cream onto your nails and underneath of them.
