Sharon Bell questioned:

In the course of searching for a cure, the psoriatic patient may encounter other weird or wacky treatments. My advice: don’t be conned into trying experimental therapies unless instructed by a reliable physician. You might regret it later.

“Patients with psoriasis, desperate for relief, may end up trying some ‘far out’ recommendations. These contain dietary changes, sleep therapy, tonsillectomy or antibiotics, none of which I have ever known to make any difference whatsoever in the course of the disease,” said Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld of the New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Center in “Second Opinion.”

“I have been reading scattered reports of the use of dialysis in the treatment of psoriasis. Dialysis is the process in which body wastes are washed out of the system via an ‘artificial kidney.’ I know of no influential evidence that it works,” he added.

Although psoriasis cannot be cured, many treatments are available that can relieve symptoms and control flare-ups. Therefore, the best thing for sufferers to do is to educate themselves on current medically accepted therapies.

How is psoriasis treated? Below is a rundown of innumerable drugs, creams and ointments your dermatologist may prescribe. In view of the fact that there is no cure for psoriasis, the most that these substances can do is offer temporary relief from symptoms.

In choosing the aptly treatment, the physician normally takes into tab the following factors: the patient’s age, employment, overall shape and extent of the lesions. Not all patients will benefit from the same treatment. To make the most out of each therapy, follow your doctor’s orders carefully and report any unusual symptoms immediately.

Coal tar is one of the oldest and safest treatments for psoriasis. It is available in a crude and refined form to treat mild, moderate and severe forms of the disease. Up your sleeve from slowing up the production of skin, tar therapy can reduce the inflammation, itching and scaling associated with psoriasis. It can be applied directly to the skin, taken in the bath, or applied to the scalp.

“Improvement should be observed within a couple of weeks of starting the tar therapy though it may take up to two months for the maximum benefit to be obtained,” according to the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) in Portland, Oregon.

But some people may not tolerate tar because of its smell and the mess it makes. For this reason, the best candidates for tar therapy are those whose patches are limited to small areas such as the knees, elbows and scalp. Refined coal tar preparations are less messy but less effective. (Next: Effects of tar therapy for psoriasis.)

Jane Robinson questioned:

Presently genetic psoriasis theory is one of the most reliable psoriasis theories.

But genetic predisposition alone is not enough for the development of psoriasis. There has to be some kind of a trigger to start the mechanisms of psoriasis.

Let’s discuss what stress is, and what stress may cause in the genetically predisposed to psoriasis people.

Stress is usually a strong negative (seldom – positive) mental or physical experience, which causes innumerable negative chemical reactions in our body.

These chemical reactions are capable of deteriorating the internal organs of our body, and causing innumerable physical disorders as well as innumerable disorders of the nervous system. Most of these disorders would never have surfaced, had they not been triggered by stress.

In the same way stress may ultimately also trigger the pathological mechanisms of psoriasis disease.

Innumerable studies have shown that stress is one of the most often psoriasis triggers in the genetically predisposed to psoriasis people — about 50% of the cases. Stress is also a major factor for the flare up of psoriasis — about 40% of the cases.

Therefore, it would be a prudent thing to do to try to avoid being paid stressed, or to learn to relieve your everyday stress.

Mental stress may be often caused by losing your loved ones, losing your job, being paid divorced etc…

Physical stress may be often caused by freezing, being paid into a car accident, undergoing a major surgery etc…

Stress may also be caused by a positive experience, such as being paid married or giving birth to a child.

In order to try to prevent psoriasis in the predisposed to psoriasis adults and family, or to better manage the existing psoriasis, I would recommend you to screen your life or your child’s life for any possible causes of stress.

It is simpler for an adult to find the possible causes of stress but it may be harder to do that for a child.

Here is the list of things you may want to look for in your child’s life:

-Skipping meals;

-Dressing improperly;

-Having a conflict at school or in preschool;

-Insufficient sleep or not enough rest;

-Uncomfortable clothes or footwear.

By trying to eliminate stress, we may as well succeed in preventing psoriasis or improving the developed psoriasis. It is certainly worth a try.

Here are the most often symptoms of stress, both in the adults and in family:

-Feeling down;

-Headaches;

-Quick heartbeat;

-Edginess;

-Insomnia.

Thus, if you find anything that may be stressing you (or your child) you should try to eliminate it, especially if this turns out to have been a prolonged stress.

There are innumerable repose techniques, which may help you in your stress management.

Jane Robinson questioned:

There are 3 main phenomena’s or symptoms of psoriasis, which can be detected with a scraping of the psoriatic plaques:

- the “stearin spot” phenomena – with the scraping of the surface of the psoriatic tablet there will appear silvery-white scales, that resemble stearin – a tasteless and odorless substance used for the manufacturing of the soaps etc.

- the “terminal film” phenomena (aka the “psoriatic film” phenomena) – with the further scraping of the psoriatic tablet underneath the abundant silvery-white scales there appears a translucent tender skin, that resembles a film

- the “point hemorrhage” phenomena (aka the “blood dew” phenomena) – with the further scraping of the tablet there will appear a point hemorrhage – tiny dots of blood

In the progressive stage of psoriasis there is also is noted the Koebner phenomena, that was first clarified by professor Koebner in 1872 – with any type of injury to the skin, be it a scratch, a cut, an irritation etc. – on the place of the injury there appears a new psoriatic tablet.

The progressive stage of psoriasis is commonly noted with the first appearance of psoriasis on the body of a person. Therefore it is exceptionally necessary to watch out for any injuries to the skin at the second of the first appearance of psoriasis. Any injury, be it the scratches obtained from a pet, piercing your ears, being paid a tattoo etc. – may trigger the appearance of psoriatic plaques precisely on the injured spots.

Psoriasis first appears as small red papules, covered with silvery-white scales. The papules grow and merge with one another, forming psoriatic plaques. The plaques are usually have a very pronounced boundary and can be easily distinguished from the skin that was not affected with psoriasis.

Psoriasis in the progressive stage is usually accompanied by itching, which subsides when the process transforms into the stationary stage. In the stage of regression psoriatic plaques flatten and expire, leaving after themselves only the sharp spots, which also expire with the course of time.

Psoriasis usually “prefers” the following skin locations: the extensor surfaces of the elbows and knees and the scalp, then it may also appear on the chest, the back and the rest of the body.

Psoriasis often also manifests itself on the nails. The nails in this case be converted into fragile, they lose their gloss and color, and they lift up above the nail bed. Psoriasis on the nails often also appears after some kind of hurt of the nails – artificial nail placement etc.

Sometimes psoriasis may also affect the joints – this type of psoriasis is called psoriatic arthritis or psoriatic arthropathy. In this case there may appear pains in the joints, as well as the deformities of the joints if the process progresses further without obtaining the effective treatment.

Some lucky people never develop psoriasis anywhere other than their elbows and knees – where they have the so called “on-duty plaques”. Those lucky individuals may never experience the gore of scalp psoriasis, nail psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis.

John mathew questioned:

Psoriasis is one of the most chronic skin diseases that is recognized by thick, red, silvery, scaled patches on the skin. It can be defined as an inflammatory skin condition. It affects both sexes and usually appears in the age of 15-35 years.

Psoriasis can occur anywhere on the body, but is most commonly found in the following areas: scalp, elbows, knees, hands, and feet. Psoriasis causes the skin to be converted into red and itchy, and often the skin is covered with scales or plaques

Skin injuries, strep infection, and gray alcohol use may be causes. Stress may also be a culprit, though some experts say it isn’t. Often, the ailment itself brings on feelings of low esteem and depression- so dealing with the accompanying emotions is a vital part of the treatment

Bitter gourd is considered valuable in treating psoriasis. In 1-cup fresh bitter gourd juice, add a tsp of limejuice. Drink it sip by sip on an empty stomach everyday for about 4-6 months.

Cabbage leaves have been successfully used in the form of compresses in the treatment of psoriasis. They should be thoroughly washed in warm water and dried with a towel. The leaves should be flattened, softened and smoothed out by rolling them with a rolling pin after removing the thick veins. They should be warmed and then applied smoothly to the affected part in an overlapping manner. A pad of soft woolen cloth should be place over them. Then secure it with an elastic bandage.

Mix 2 drops of calendula oil and a drop of oregano oil in a small cup of olive oil and apply. This solution may also be used on the scalp. Massage well into the scalp and remove with a mild shampoo followed by a cider vinegar or lemon rinse. Calendula oil is consequential from marigolds and is often used to soothe skin inflammation, and oregano oil has strong antibacterial properties. If you have marigolds growing in your garden, boil four marigold heads in four cups of water for two minutes. Allow to cool and make a compress to apply the solution to the area or use as a scalp rinse.

Treat psoriasis using aloe vera – Aloe vera works really well on all types of skin conditions. It also works wonders when you rub the flesh of the aloe vera into the red area of your psoriasis. Aloe vera is affective in treating the pain and itching. If you do not have aloe vera in your garden your local shape food store will have it in the form of a gel, spray, lotion, liquid, cream and even capsules.

Effective home remedy for psoriasis using Marigold lotion for an irritated scalp : Boil 4 marigold heads in 4 cups of water for two minutes. Allow to cool then massage this lotion well into the scalp. Wash with a very mild shampoo or a solution of soapwort. Add lemon juice or cider vinegar to the rinsing water to ensure a thorough rinse. This will give relief from psoriasis.

Jane Robinson questioned:

People with psoriasis delight in sun tanning just as much as people without psoriasis, and usually even more. Not only the sun gives your skin a nice golden color but if you have psoriasis – the sun also helps you to temporarily get rid of your psoriatic plaques.

Some of us are lucky enough to live in the areas with a constant summer (Southern California, Southern Florida etc.). But the majority enjoys the sun only in the summer months. Some people with psoriasis not only take normal vacations to the places with a warm climate, but even try to relocate there in order to keep their psoriasis in check.

Unfortunately, this does not pertain to the people with the summer type of psoriasis. The sun really aggravates the state of their skin and psoriasis.

But what exactly is a suntan? Suntan is the reaction of the skin to the sun. Our skin tries to protect itself from the excessive sun rays by starting to produce more of the melanin pigment. The pigment melanin gives the skin its nuance – pink, brown etc. People with darker skin are better protected from the sun. They usually develop a nice even suntan. People with a honest skin, as a replacement for of an even suntan may develop sunburns and uneven pigmentation. This is due to that their skin does not produce enough of melanin to protect itself.

After stopping the exposure to the UV rays, the skin stops producing excessive melanin and returns to its usual color.

Excessive sun causes hurts, starting with painful blisters and premature skin aging, and including melanoma – skin cancer.

It is a fact that people with the winter type of psoriasis can temporary get rid of their plaques with a regular timed exposure to the sun rays. But why does this happen? The thing is that the sun rays exterminate the excessive T-cells in the skin. And the T-cells of people with psoriasis are one of the culprits of psoriatic plaques. Furthermore, the remaining T-cells lose their ability to express the IFN-gamma cytokines, which play a huge role in the inflammatory processes.

Does it make sense to suntan in order to get rid of psoriasis? I believe that it does. The benefits in this case outweigh the negative side-effects.

Most celebrities and other public people maintain their skin with a bronze hue year around. Why do they do it? Because tanned skin usually looks more smooth and healthy and shows less imperfections than pale skin. Don’t they know about the adverse side effects of constantly subjecting their skin to the UV rays? I believe that they do. But their looks are much more vital for them as it directly contributes to their public image, fame and therefore profits.

People with psoriasis endure from the unpleasant external manifestations of psoriasis. Will being paid rid of these manifestations outweigh the side-effects such as premature skin aging? I believe so.

Simply try to be careful with sun tanning. Start to tan with small periods. Keep a record of how long you suntan in order not to burn. Moisturize your skin after each sun tanning. You may also want to see your dermatologist in order to start regularly monitoring the state of your skin even as you are sun tanning.

Eddie Hudd questioned:

Psoriasis is a physical skin condition that affects around two percent of all adults and can cause noteworthy mental distress to those that endure from it. Although psoriasis manifests itself as a skin condition, clinical studies have concluded that the actual cause emanates from the immune system. It has also been found that genetic factors play a role in who is likely to develop psoriasis. Folks whose parents or grandparents suffered with the complaint have a superior prospect of developing it as well.

There are a number of innumerable symptoms associated with a flare up of psoriasis including salmon colored skin, which becomes scaly, flaky and irritated. With tablet psoriasis, which is also the most common type, the affected areas develop around, oval or odd formed patches of red that are covered with skin that is scaly and silvery colored. The shape and sizes of the patches vary widely and individual smaller areas can combine to form one larger shape of irritated scaly skin. As well as life unsightly, these larger areas tend to crack and start bleeding.

The area of affected skin can be converted into very sore and feel as though it is burning. As with the shape, there is no consistency as to how long a specific flare-up will last. It could go away within a week but on the other hand, you may be suffering for weeks on end. because psoriasis is classified as a long-term condition, the prospects of recurring flare-ups in the same or different area of the body are very high.

Certain parts of the body tend to be affected more than others including the upper body, head, elbows and knees. But, any part of the body can develop psoriasis. One bizarre anomaly is that outbreaks tend to be symmetrical in nature in as much that opposite sides of the body will be affected in the same areas at the same time.

For reasons that are not yet fully understood, T-cells, which are needed by our bodies to produce infection fighting white blood cells, cause inflammation of the skin. T-cells also in some way trigger the production of an excess of skin cells. Because these skin cells are surplus to requirements, they just stack up on top of each other and in turn start the telltale raised patches on the skin surface. The red look is the increased blood supply that is needed to nourish these skin cells.

Although not the causes, normal triggers of psoriasis contain sunlight, streptococcal infections and traumas, both past and present, to the skin. Alterations in the bodys hormone levels as well as stress and anxiety can also spark outbreaks. Individuals with early stages of HIV seem to have higher instances of psoriasis as well. Smokers and alcohol drinkers are considered to be at superior risk of developing psoriasis although it is not contagious and cannot be passed on.

Currently, there still is no recognized cure for psoriasis. But many effective treatment options can relieve the symptoms. Resisting the temptation to scratch the affected area and keeping it moist is a excellent start.

The first line of treatment is topical, which are applied directly to the affected surface area with the ultimate goal of trying to stem the production of excess skin cells. Coal tar, salicylic acid, corticosteroids, synthetic vitamin D, tazorac and anthrallin are common localized treatment choices as are specially developed bathing products and moisturizers. Systemic medications are prescribed to address more severe cases. Phototherapy, where patients are exposed to medically supervised ultraviolet radiation is also effective in treating psoriasis.

Jane Robinson questioned:

Psoriasis as a word consequential from the Greek word “psora” – “itch”.

Psoriasis is the most wide spread chronic dermatitis. According to statistics, about 2-3% of the total population of the Earth has psoriasis – approximately 120 – 180 million people! For instance: Canada – about 1 million people, Splendid Britain – 1 million, Scandinavian countries – 2 million people, France – 2 million people and the U.S.A. – 7 million people.

There are countries, where psoriasis is encountered less frequently – for example Japan, China – less than 1% of the population.

Psoriasis is also more frequently recorded in locations of a moderate and cold climate and it is relatively less normal in the tropical countries.

In rural areas the frequency of psoriasis is usually 3-4 times less normal than in the urban areas.

Psoriasis appears on skin as inflamed lesions, peeling and scales. The scales can be easily removed, and beneath them there lays an yet denser scale. In addition to the skin psoriasis may as well strike the nails and joints.

The average cycle of shedding of normal skin cells occurs approximately in 4 weeks, with psoriasis this process takes only 4-5 days. The course of psoriasis usually has a sharply expressed seasonality. Psoriasis can be located in any sections of the skin, but predominantly the plaques are located symmetrically on the knees and elbows, on scalp and on the skin of the rest of the body.

Psoriasis is a chronic condition, which stays with a person for their total life, and is accompanied by the variation of flare-ups and remissions. Psoriasis is a non-contagious disease.

Psoriasis develops due to many factors, with the prevailing substance of genetic factors.

Psoriasis is not fatal, but it causes loads of problems for the sufferer. Psoriasis may bring serious complications; it causes commonplace inconveniences, which start dominating the life and the thoughts of a person and affect the quality of life. Usually these are cosmetic, which limit the choice of the selection of hair-do, outfit, and the actions. People with psoriasis often experience inferiority complexes. Life bothered by their appearance, they may be converted into “people in a box”: seldom in public, wear maximally closed outfits etc.

Countless well-known people, including Ben Franklin, Henry Ford, Joseph Stalin and many others had psoriasis. In the 1930’s, Winston Churchill, who as well had psoriasis for many years, projected a golden monument for the person, who cures this disease.

jackb son asked:

Plaque Psoriasis, aside from being the most common type, is just psoriasis. Let me explain. Prior to being called this, it was psoriasis and before this, was thought to be leprosy.

For example… psoriasis on the scalp came to be scalp psoriasis. This began to get descriptive names many decades ago according to where on the body you had it. It’s still the same, but changes its appearance depending where on the body you have it. For obvious reasons (hair mass and less skin tissue), this on the scalp has generally a different appearance then psoriasis on the elbows and knees.

Signs and Symptoms

There are various types of psoriasis. We have Plaque psoriasis, Nail psoriasis, Scalp psoriasis, Guttate psoriasis, Inverse psoriasis, Pustular psoriasis, Erythrodermic psoriasis and Psoriatic arthritis. And the most common of it is the plaque psoriasis. The symptoms of psoriasis may defer depending on what type a person has but may include one or more of the following:

• Red patches of skin, inflamed skin usually covered with silver colored scales is the most common form of plaque psoriasis. These patches may be itchy and painful. The itch may occur anywhere in your body including your genitals. Sometimes these red patches crack and bleed.

• Psoriasis may also affect your fingernails and toenails. Discoloration and pitting of the nails can also be one of the symptoms of nail psoriasis. This may causes the nails to loosen and will eventually detach from the nail bed. Nails may crumble in most severe cases of nail psoriasis.

• Scalp psoriasis or psoriasis on the scalp may appear red. Itchy areas of the scalp may have silvery colored white scales. Flakes are noticeable in your hair or shoulders, especially after scratching your scalp.

• Guttate psoriasis may affects people less than 30 years of age. Marked by small water-drop-shaped sores on your trunks, arms, legs and scalp.

• Inverse psoriasis is the kind that mainly affects the skin in your armpits, groin, under the breasts, and around the genitals. Inverse psoriasis is common the oversized people and it is worsened by friction and sweating.

Ayurveda Treatment

Ayurvedic treatment for psoriasis lasts for 21 to 28 days and effectively cures psoriasis. All types of psoriasis and skin diseases have effective treatment in Ayurveda.

Psoriasis is a skin disease that takes a toll on the confidence of a person. It is characterized by silvery scales or plaques on skin. Skin cells are easily lost. Skin will also be dry.

According to Ayurveda psoriasis occurs due to vitiation of vata and kapha doshas. The reasons can be incompatible food taking, accumulation of toxins etc.

Panchakarma, the basic body purification method is used in the treatment of psoriasis. Ayurvedic treatment for psoriasis goes through several stages viz. lepanam (application of ointments), abhayangam (oil massage), snehapanam (taking medicated ghee),

Sharon Bell questioned:

The more potent the steroid, the superior potential for skin hurt. That’s why steroids should be used with caution, especially if you have psoriasis.

To guide you in this topic, here are more tips on steroid use:

When stopping steroid therapy, taper off gradually. Stopping suddenly can cause a flare.

Steroids can cause skin hurt not always apparent to the patient. A physician should check the skin periodically.

Steroids generally clear psoriasis lesions for variable periods of time depending on the individual.

Use steroid medications sparingly. In this instance, more is not better.

“Steroid creams and ointments do not smell or stain and are pleasant to use. Unfortunately they are not that effective in clearing plaques of psoriasis and the psoriasis tends to rebound after withdrawal, often in a more unstable form. Local steroids are therefore not recommended for chronic tablet psoriasis. Nevertheless, steroids are indicated for certain types of psoriasis. The skin on the face tolerates tar and anthranol (which were previously discussed in this series) poorly, and one percent hydrocortisone ointment is the treatment of choice; more potent steroid preparations should not be used,” clarified Dr. S.M. Going, clinical assistant, department of dermatology at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, in The British Medical Journal.

“Flexural psoriasis (which is characterized by well-defined red areas and minimal scaling) is another form where tar and anthranol are likely to irritate the skin and steroids are indicated. It is often useful to choose a training which combines a mild or moderately potent steroid with antifungal and antibiotic agent as lesser infection in these warm moist areas is often a problem. Systemic steroids should not be prescribed in psoriasis,” Going concluded.

Psoriasis can also be controlled using ultraviolet radiation. This can be done in two ways: through ultraviolet B or ultraviolet A therapy.

In the former, which is called phototherapy or UVB, the skin is exposed to shortwave ultraviolet set alight in a cabinet filled with 16 or more UVB lamps. This is effective against moderate to severe psoriasis, particularly those with small plaques or guttate psoriasis which is characterized by small pink macules or discolored spots on the skin. UVB therapy doesn’t work well in patients with very thick or huge lesions.

Phototherapy can be done at home or at a physician’s office although the latter is preferable for advanced cases. The thought is to expose the skin to gradually increasing doses of UVB set alight until it turns pink.

When the skin becomes accustomed to a certain dose and no longer takes on a pink color, the UVB exposure time is further increased until the lesions expire.

“The first exposure to the set alight is usually small, lasting as small as 15 to 30 seconds, depending on the person’s skin type and the number of UVB lamps in the unit. People with a lighter skin type are more sensitive to the UVB so they may start out with a lower exposure time than a person with dark skin,” according to the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) in Portland, Oregon. (Next: Enhancing the effects of phototherapy for psoriasis.)

To strengthen your body, take Immunitril – your first line of defense in maintaining a healthy immune system. For details, visit http://www.bodestore.com/immunitril.html.

Jane Robinson questioned:

Form the beginning of humankind hundreds of thousands of human beings – from common people to stars, from kings to vital modern politicians – suffered and do still endure from psoriasis today.

Psoriasis is even cited in the writings of ancient healing. Back in the late classic times there was a known disease, which was realized by the peeling and itchiness of skin.

The problem of Ancient Greek medical expressions led to the fact that in the functions of Hippocrates, leprosy and psoriasis were collectively under one name, which was -leprosy. Psoriasis was known in the times of Hippocrates under the names of lepra and psora, as well as alphos and leichen. In the times of Hippocrates a dermatological expressions was introduced, utilized sometimes even at present, some of the terms of which had a group meaning. So, under the term “psoriasis” they united the diseases, which are accompanied by tuberosity, by the formation of scale, spots and by keratosis, such as eczema, lichens (micose, red flat lichen, tubercular lupus, leprosy, etc).

Each of these terms had their really unique elements; for example, the term “leprosy” was used with the determination of the assortment of the diseases, which are manifested by a thick skin, by its peeling and itchiness, which in some way tells us about psoriasis in today’s thought of psoriasis.

At the start of our era a distinguished Greek physician named Claudius Galen was first to use the term “psoriasis” to mark the scaly changes in the skin with an extreme itchiness; but, clinically this condition small resembled the present manifestations of psoriasis.

In the writings of the past hundreds of years psoriasis itself was sometimes mistaken to be leprosy, mange, Vitiligo, which usually needed a strict segregation and other subsequent consequences: people with psoriasis didn’t get any shape care; they had to wear a really unusual outfit and bell.

With the term “psora” (ancient name of psoriasis) it was called the variety of diseases of the skin, for which was known for it’s peeling, dry skin and itchiness.

The first visible description of the clinical manifestations of psoriasis belongs to a 2nd century Greek philosopher named Celsus.

Only the start of the 19th Century an English physician named Willan and his students clearly offered the thought of psoriasis as an illness, its manifestations and problems. They differentiated it from leprosy and fungus diseases.They secluded the usual and uncommon surge of psoriasis (changes in the palms, feet, etc. ). Willan described two diseases: discoid psoriasis, which he called Lepra Graecorum and Psora Leprosa. Willan in 1801 gave a description of the ailment taking into tab variations in the clinical make-up of psoriasis.

A key role in the course of the investigate into psoriasis was done by a Russian dermatologists of the 19th century , which considered this dermatosis as a system ailment,”psoriatic disease”, capturing into tab the connection of psoriasis with the pathology of the interior organs, metabolism, and the condition of the nervous system. The physicians of innumerable countries (Gebr, H.Koebner and others) have also later pointed out the connection of psoriatic disease with the circumstance of the nervous system, and the diseases of the interior organs.

Later dermatology was enriched by new facts about the zest of the disease. All the cumulated evidence lets us at present call psoriasis a “system disease”.

New evidence about the essence and the mechanism of the course of the illness was obtained in the last 40 years; the new modern methods for the therapy were envisioned and used: PUVA- treatment, corticosteroids, retinoids, cytostatics in the therapy of severe forms, Selective Ultraviolet Phototherapy, acupuncture, hemosorption etc.

During the latter part of the 20th century it was obvious by a truly immense approach to the dilemma of psoriasis. Only in the last 10 years or so, around the globe there have been published more than ten-thousand pieces, devoted to psoriatic dermatosis, which makes it one of the most examined. But, none of the possibilities or the theories show a complete essence of the illness, and the same problems of treatment and preventive maintenance stands in front of the latest dermatologists as vivid as it did a century ago.

Currently, many Researchers and educational institutions deal with the exploration of the root, manifestations, and with the refinement of new ways to treat and use preventive maintenance measures for psoriasis. In the United States the key scientific focal point for psoriasis is Stanford University, which has 35 different countries from around the world in the form of an international association on the studies of psoriasis.
